FAQs
How long have you been a photographer?
I started in 2003.
How long do the Bridal party photos take?
There is nothing worse than the Bridal party being away from the guests for too long..
Your bar tab will take a hiding and the guests will get fed up waiting for you.
15-20minutes driving each way is enough and then up 45mins – 1hr for photos as a guideline.
If you want to go somewhere further, take more time etc we really need to discuss taking the bridal party photos first which is so popular now, it works really well, you have a private romantic meeting, a nice photo session, then go your separate way. You still have a grand entrance with a few less nerves and more time to spend with your guests before the reception but I understand if you want to go the traditional way, something to think about.
How soon after the wedding do we get the photos?
I aim for 2 weeks, sometimes 3 if you are away on honeymoon!
Can we print from the DVD we get?
You sure can, I want you to be able to print, but you must promise me you’ll use a proper lab!
Do you come to the rehearsal?
I don’t come to the rehearsal – quite honestly there’s no need for me to be there, but I will check out a location or venue if I’ve not been there before and you are after something extra special.
Do we need to pay a deposit?
I ask you to go away and talk about your decision, but don’t wait too long, I have to work on a first come first served basis, if I’ve quoted or met with you I will check with you if another couple ask about your date, but to secure a date I ask for a $500 non-refundable booking fee to secure your date, when you confirm. I can only book one wedding a day.
When do we pay the balance?
You pay the balance when you collect your photos after the wedding.
Do you have an assistant?
I normally work with an assistant on a wedding day. They help with my gear, they cross shoot from me, capturing the ‘other’ angle and often candid moments I can’t. I am the primary photographer though, you will always get me barring illness.
What happens if I’m sick?
Since 2003 this has only happened to me for 2 bookings. I was once so ill I couldn’t get out of bed, and the other in 2007, 2 days before a wedding I was knocked off a road bike by a car and broke my pelvis. On each occasion I arranged for a professional photographer to replace me. I would have to be very ill not to be there for you. I know many professional NZIPP photographers that I can call upon. I would then endeavour to continue your after wedding service.
Do you have back up gear?
I carry double everything and lots of spare batteries!
What happens if it rains?
We can’t control everything and sometimes it rains.. Usually its ok to get a few shots out there. With the use of umbrellas and building cover, if its really bad we have to work inside. Bars, cafes, hotels are usually willing to help. Choosing a plan B bad weather venue or contacting your wedding night accommodation as a back up is a good idea.
